Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. ~ James 1:27
We just shared the news with the girls about us adopting a little Ethiopian boy, and I'm in AB's bed talking with her about the day like normal as she drifts off to sleep...
Mom: You know...little brother will look different than us. His skin will be different. His hair will be different. He might be a little darker or alot darker than us.
AB: (a little irritated by the conversation) So...I don't care what he looks like Mom.
When people ask me what the girls think about the color aspect of the adoption...they don't care...why would it be an issue...they haven't been polluted by the world yet.

AMEN to that! Faith like a child is what we all should have. Actually did you know we are all brown. yep, found out while teaching science to my kids. So our kids thought that fact was great! They were sooo confused when we have studied Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr., etc. We said about if we wanted to adopt them years ago- we couldn't have....blank stares. It just totally blows their minds why their mom & dad couldn't have been. That people make a big deal out of melanin in the skin. Oh the Blessings of children's faith and so untainted - Praise God for it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment on my blog. I just posted a little info on some of the bible studies we have done. I have lots of link that might help.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing you at the next meeting.

I've been reading your blogs and praying as you go through the process. We are going through our second adoption...but my niece had just turned 5 when we adopted our daughter Kate. Her mom explained that she looked different...when she saw her for the first time she touched her and said..."Mom, you said she was chocolate...she doesn't taste like it."
ReplyDeleteYou said it perfectly--they haven't been polluted by the world yet.
Really enjoying your blog. We are working on our home study to adopt from Ethiopia. My girls are about the same age as your little ones (plus we have a toddler boy too!) I will be following your journey!
